Hello Aspirants
I will share some of my thoughts on how to clear UGC NET and SET. Having cleared both NET and MH SET exam on my first attempt without any hurdle. The only thing you need to ensure is Hard work and smart study. Now a lot of experts will recommend that but what I will try to help you through this blog is where you need to channelize your hard work.
UGC NET exam itself is geared up to test your knowledge not only in of the subject of specialization but other inter disciplinary subjects. Eg. in my case having specialized in Marketing, my major emphasis was on Finance, Economics, OB, HR, Ops etc along with the electives like Intl marketing, Foreign trade
Here are a few guidelines for studying all 3 papers ( MH SET has now only 2 papers going forward)
Paper I
Mathematics : Get hold of a 4th standard and 8th standard maths textbook any board and revise all concepts like fractions, percentage, number sense, types of numbers i.e real no, integers, rational etc. Go through word problems of STD 4 for addition, subtraction , division and multiplication . Rest should be logical reasoning, time, measurements etc. Ignore questions which are very difficult go for other options.
English: Grammar textbook of 4th grade for all nouns, adjectives and variants like positive, comparative and superlative. Verbs, types of sentences and finally comprehension passages.
Apart from this study Indian education system, probably a Wikipedia page on UGC and AICTE, HRD website.
Finally a good website on pedagogy of teaching for normal students, disabled students etc.
This should be followed with McQ questions for practice
Paper II and Paper III
A word of caution in case you have not been attentive in your MBA classes for the subject of specialization then you may be advised to take 4 months just to cover each chapter from your 4th semester.
My suggestion for all students would be to choose each topic from syllabus from each subject and Google the same and read and spend an hour to get to the depth of it. If you do it half heartedly then might as well day goodbye to the exam because you may not get time to come back to that topic again eg If you are studying dividend theory then go to the depth of that topic by reading as many articles on the same. All the different dividend theories, pros and cons etc.
A personal recommendation yourarticlelibrary.com is a crisp website with diagrams .
A suggestion spend more time of economics, finance and marketing and probably lesser time on HR and other subjects as apart from your specialization these 3 subjects carry more weightage and questions.
Google each topic in electives and read a lot eg Foreign trade would entail in depth study of GATT, WTO , processes , Indian perspective etc apart from EXIM policies and bodies.
All in all internet might be the best alternative to a good reference book but the aptitude to absorb a lot of concepts , facts and figures should be the norm. Daily 2-3 hours study for atleast 2 months is a minimum.
A word of caution a lot of students start the I slowlyquestion paper I and leave the exam incomplete or rush at the end. Speed and quick thinking is the norm for Paper I and expertise and in depth knowledge is the norm for Paper II and III .
I would be happy to answer any queries in the comments section.
All the best.
